What is this blog about? Why is it called “Thousand Year Picnic?”
On one hand, it’s about sustainability. “How will humanity continue to survive and thrive on a living planet for the next thousand years?”
But on the other hand, and both feet, it’s about a sustainability that is fun and full of sunshine. Imagine a picnic. Real people, real food, real nature, real reality. All the things that make life worth living, the way we were born to live.
“Sustainability” isn’t just something you do when you put the recycling out every week. If we want a sustainable society, we need to weave that thread through our entire lives. How do we eat? Who are our neighbors? Where do we find our joy?
And there’s thousands of ways to weave that thread. So this blog is really about a lot of things: dumpster diving, dancing, activism, mindfulness, joyful weirdness, living more while using less.
I tried to design this blog so I wouldn’t “grow out of it.” Like a vine wrapped around a tree, it will grow with me. So over the years, it will be many things, always woven with the same thread. I hope you enjoy reading it!
